  • Muay Thai / KickboxingMuay Thai / Kickboxing Muay Thai is a form of hard martial art practiced in large parts of the world, including Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.  Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand and is the country’s national sport. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Art of the Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight “points of contact,” as opposed to “two points” (fists) in Western boxing and “four points” (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. Ground Control’s Muay Thai program is for practitioners of levels and ages. It is great if you are looking to get in shape and learn proper techniques, or if you are interested in getting to the next level.  Ground Control differs from other schools in the area where the focus is on continuing to move without learning proper techniques. Punching bags and preforming exercises without properly understanding the proper execution is dangerous and will cause injury.
What to Expect on the First Day: We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before schedule, as the class will start on time.  As your practice begins you will notice that the instructor has a precise plan for the class.  You will find strong support by the Ground Control team. Students with more experience are always there to help new members get started. By the end of class you’ll be physically tired but mentally exhilarated. Remember, you can train as much as you want.

  • No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

    No-GI Jiu JitsuProgram

Welcome to No-GI Jiu Jitsu or submission grappling… Traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is always taught in the GI. While Ground Control starts most students in a GI, after showing an understanding of the fundamental skills of BJJ they are welcome to take the No-GI Jiu Jitsu class. The Ground Control no GI program is structured similarly to the GI classes; however, some techniques are modified because students are wearing rash guards and shorts not the traditional GI. Taking away the control that the GI offers presents another type of challenge for the student. While in the GI there are many more attacks and methods of control available to the practitioners. Taking the GI out of the equation speeds up the game because it mitigates some of the potential danger of getting caught in an adverse position. Training in no GI offers the student a different perspective of the techniques that they have learned in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs. No GI is great addition to every student’s game! For self-defense as well as competition it is great to add this to your game. If you plan to enter Mixed Martial Arts competitions, learning and training without the GI is a must! No GI Program classes are similar to the other programs in that they are based on a defined class structure and curriculum that take a broad and open-minded approach to learning the art. Students interact with the instructors and other students in a way that all team members will advance to their ultimate goals. With everyone focusing on each other and helping the person next to you in order to better the Jiu-Jitsu they have learned. Benefit of the No GI Jiu Jitsu Program:
    • Learn the most effective take down techniques adapted to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
    • Develop transitions between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques Experience further improvements in overall fitness level
    • Gain a better understanding of different aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
    • Begin to build your no GI game as you gain an understanding of the art and its different applications
    • Compete in no GI in tournaments (If that is your desire)
    • Train at all the other Ground Control Academies

It has also been a sport as far back as 700 BC and was an Olympic sport as early a 688BC. There was much development and promotion of the sport in Britain from the 16th century on, which was also known as prize fighting during it’s earlier development. Modern boxing is now a well known and heavilay regulated sport. Training for Western Boxing can enhance and improve strength, endurance/conditioning, speed, agility, stamina, flexibility and reflexes. Boxing training can consists of learning how to move and place your feet, how and where to hold your hands/arms, defensive moves/positioning (slipping, bobbing, blocking, covering up, clinching, footwork and evasion), punches (jabs, crosses, counter strikes, hooks, uppercuts, straight punches) and any combination/variation of these and a few others that aren’t specific or just happen to happen at the time. Western Boxing is a great total body workout as well as a very practical martial art. Students will learn real boxing techniques from coaches that have trained top-level professional fighters. Ground Control’s boxing program differs from most “boxing classes” because the student will learn the proper techniques rather than just throwing improper punches at a heavy bag while being yelled at to go for the entire class. The student learns real techniques while getting an exceptional workout.   What to Expect on the First Day: We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before schedule, as the class will start on time. The instructor will have a precise plan for the class. While the techniques will change, the class routine is always similar so you know exactly what to expect during each part of practice.  Students with more experience are always there to help new members get started. 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

  • MMA Fight Team
MMA Class Mixed Martial Arts or MMA as it is often called is exactly that… Any and all aspects of martial arts mixed together. Originally promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations, competitors were pitted against one another with few rules. Later, fighters employed multiple martial arts into their style whilst promoters were pressured to adopt additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors, to meet compliance and regulation and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport.   At Ground Control MMA classes are used to help the student that has been training in all different martial arts at the academy combine them together for practical or competition training. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Western Boxing and Wrestling are all very different arts. Bringing them together and developing an effective game is an art in and of itself. Students must first understand the individual martial arts before entering this class.

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Classes

The practice of Ground Control Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu combines instruction, observation, practice, feedback, and live training.  Originally developed by the Gracie family, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the principle that a smaller and weaker person can successfully defend themselves against bigger and stronger opponents by using leverage and proper technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is without a doubt the best martial art to learn in order to defend yourself.  Our techniques are based on leverage rather than strength and physical ability.  Therefore, basic movement, position, and base will be the primary focus of students. Students will experience results that go beyond gains in strength, flexibility, fitness or self-defense skills. By remaining truthful to the lessons and practicing, Ground Control students experience an overall improvement on their focus, energy and general well-being. The Ground Control program teaches the basic principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, while also showing students how to defend themselves in a real-life situation. Benefit of Joining our Program:
    • Learn basic fundamentals
    • Increase focus, energy and concentration
