Jesse is possibly the most well –rounded and accomplished Martial Artist at Ground Control Owings Mills. A self-proclaimed “Nerd” growing up, Jesse had no athletic background in any combat sport before he began training at Ground Control 5 years ago. Through hard work and dedication, he went from being a rookie to Professional MMA Fighter and currently sports a 2-0 record after making his Pro Debut in April of 2015. Jesse, who has a gift for teaching kids in a fun environment, currently helps out with Kids Classes in both Kickboxing and No Gi Jiu-Jitsu throughout the week. One of the most popular instructors we have at GCOM, one of the first questions kids tend to ask walking in the door is “Is Coach Jesse here?”
As a competitor, Jesse worked his way up the amatuer MMA ranks with an undefeated record and several Amatuer Titles on the local circuit. Before turning pro in 2015, Jesse had over a year lay off from competing in MMA simply because we could not find any local amatuer willing to take a fight against him. He also spent a summer in Bangkok, Thailand training Muay Thai at Jitti Gym, which is known as one of the top Muay Thai Gyms in the World. Jesse also was able to get competition experience taking fights in both Phuket and Bangkok while he was living there. This included having the honor of fighting at the Queen’s Cup in August of 2014, which is a two day event that features several of the best fighters from around the world competing as part of the celebration of the Queen’s Birthday. Jesse also racked up several regional and National Amatuer Kickboxing titles, including the WKA North American Championship in March of 2014. His striking is just the beginning of his fighting resume as Jesse also holds a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has one several of his Amatuer Fights, and one of his Professional MMA Fights via Submission.
Although Jesse is still continuing to battle his way up the ranks as a Professional MMA Fighter and Thai Boxer, he also works a full time job working on cars in his family’s business. Although he is at the gym on a daily basis, he would never stand as anything more than a regular student if you didn’t already know he was a Professional MMA Fighter. He takes ALL Classes, beginner and advanced, and sets the example for many of our members who are just starting out with the program. He still lives in Baltimore County, where he grew up, and is planning to go back to school next year to work towards his degree while continuing to persue a full time career in MMA.
